Historically, the population of Tibet consisted of primarily ethnic Tibetans and some other smaller ethnic groups. According to tradition the original ancestors of the Tibetan people, as represented by the six red bands in the Tibetan flag, are: the Se, Mu, Dong, Tong, Dru and Ra.
The issue of the proportion of the Han Chinese population in Tibet is a politically sensitive one and is disputed. The People's Republic of China has actively swamped Tibet with Han Chinese migrants in order to alter Tibet's demographic makeup.
Tibet was once an independent country before China invaded it in 1950.

We call on the Chinese government to immediately halt the execution of any more Tibetans and commute all suspended death sentences.
We urge all international governments to immediately condemn these executions and to seek confirmation of the whereabouts of Tenzin Phuntsok, Kangtsuk and Penkyi, the other three Tibetans who received death sentences with a reprieve. [SFoT]
